Mom & Me – Last Call for Registration, Info and Packing List for Participants

Last call for registration for the Mom & Me campout this weekend at George W Pirtle Scout Reservation! You have until noon to register HERE

If you can only come out for the day on Saturday that's fine! We have a couple families that will not be able to spend the night.

For those attending, attached is a recommended packing list and a map of Pirtle. It is highly recommended that you bring a pull behind wagon to transport your belongings from the parking lot to your camp site – personal vehicles are not permitted to drive around camp, and it can be a bit of a walk.

There is no rain in the forecast this weekend. The high on Saturday is 70, with temperatures dropping to 45 at night. Please make sure to bring a warm jacket, and a hat and gloves are recommended. Remember, sleeping bags are rated for survival temperatures, not comfort. A bag that is rated for 40 degrees will get you through the night, but it will still be cold! A warm blanket inside a sleeping bag helps retain the heat. Bring a pad to lay down on the ground under your sleeping bag to help keep you warm – cots and air mattresses allow for cold air to get under your body. If you don't have a mat to put under your sleeping bag, you can use an exercise mat, blankets, anything to create a barrier between you and the ground. Also, if you pack extra of anything, pack extra socks! Always go to bed with a clean, dry pair.

Comfortable, closed toe shoes are required. There will be quite a bit of walking, so brand-new shoes need to be broken in. Scouts must wear closed toe shoes, even at the campsite – walking around barefoot is not permitted.

While there is potable water at the site, some do not care for the taste and choose to bring their own. Please make sure to bring a refillable water bottle for all participants and stay hydrated!

There is a small shop on site with snacks, drinks, and some essentials you may have forgotten to pack. They do accept cash or card. It is located near the parking lot.

If you need to borrow any gear, please reach out to your den leader, Cubmaster Jason Beaton, or myself ASAP. We have several families with extra gear and can also borrow from the Troop.

Lastly, if you have not yet turned in your Health Forms A & B, please bring them with you on Saturday as they are required to participate. If you have already turned in your forms, one of our leaders will have them on site. YPT MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO SATURDAY! YPT takes a little over an hour to complete and cell reception at Pirtle is not great. You don't want to be taking it in the parking lot that morning! Save a copy of your certificate on your phone to show at check-in or bring a printed copy with you. Even if you have already turned a copy in to the pack, go ahead and save a copy on your phone to show event staff.
