First, I want to thank all my very thoughtful Scouts for the great christmas gifts – I have pictures I'll share soon.
Next – No meeting this week – it will be crazy enough getting back into the school schedule of life after the holidays!!
Part of the reason for this is that I am on the road heading to North Carolina. My brother passed away unexpectedly, and I am the only relative left to take care of everything. He was a retired Army Veteran (Vietnam and Korea) and wanted to stay close to Ft. Bragg and the city he was used to. He has been battling lung cancer – it was not curable, but he was responding well to treatment and we were working on a 6 – 12 month prognosis. Unfortunately, he contracted Covid and it overwhelmed his lungs in just 48 hours.
Due to the crazy cancellations in air travel and the uncertainty of the time frame needed, we left today for the 17-hour drive. We are already in contact with the military honors funeral team, so we will get his funeral planned and take care of final clean up of his possessions, etc.
Because our schedule for the next few days is very unsettled, to say the least, I do not believe I will be prepared for Scouts on Jan. 11th. However, we have Pinewood Derby planning and this will be the first Derby for several of you so I'm sure there are questions. I will have my son Jason Beaton make sure updates go to Den 4, and will know a lot more by the end of this week. If all goes well, we might be back with no problems! Please keep us in your prayers as we travel, and thank you for being the BEST Scout Den EVER!!!
